1. CR3 Page on CORM Website

The chairman reported that CR3 Page was created and published on the CORM Website (www.corm.org) in November 1997 (handout 2). This Page provides summaries of the subjects discussed at the past eight meetings and status of the subjects being discussed. This Page is to be expanded. Any ideas and suggestions to utilize this Page are welcome.

2. Maintenance of the Directory of Reference Documents on Photometry

The chairman reported that this Directory was published and distributed to all the CORM members in Sep. 1997, and thanked the CR3 members who contributed to this work.

The hardcopy version of the Directory will be revised at a 5 year cycle, according to the decision made at the past meeting. In order to make the updates more frequently available, the chairman sent an inquiry to CORM BD (Will Weber) on the possibility of publishing the Directory on the CORM Website (on a members-only access basis), but the decision at the previous BD meeting was negative at the moment. Nevertheless, CR3 will keep the information of the Directory updated (at least yearly basis) and shared among CR3 members. The updates can also be available to other CORM members through CR3 members. The update for each listed organization will be maintained by those CR3 members as assigned before (see CR3 Activity Report, May 1998). J. Arens brought and distributed the update of the IES document list (handout 5). J. Rennilson will submit the ASTM update. Other assigned members are requested to send the update list to the chairman.

3. Survey on the Calibration and Testing Laboratories for Photometry and Radiometry.

The chairman reported that a CORM-wide survey on calibration and testing labs was distributed in Aug.-Sep. 1997. 28 responses were received and compiled by Daryl Myers in Nov. 1997 (handout 3). The chairman had noticed that some companies were missing, and requested the attendees to name any missing companies. The attendees listed Hoffman, Opto-Cal, Lighting Science, Gamma Scientific, and UDT Instruments. The chairman will contact them to give them another chance to respond to the survey. There may be more company missing. All the CR3 members are requested to check the current survey results and let the chairman know any missing companies of calibration and testing labs that have CORM members.

Five foreign national labs (one privatized but still functions as a national lab) are included in the survey results. We had some discussions whether to exclude them or not. The chairman will investigate this issue further.

Following up the decision at the last meeting, the chairman also sent an inquiry to CORM BD (Ron Daubach) on a possibility of extending the survey range outside CORM (but limited to small organizations such as IES Testing Procedures Committee). The answer from the Board was that it could be done on the decision by the Radiometry Committee chairman. We discussed what other organizations could be included in the survey. The attendees agreed to plan to include IES/TPC, ASTM E12, SAE Lighting Committee, and Aerospace Lighting Institute. The chairman will contact Radiometry Committee chairman for approval, and IES/TPC. J. Rennilson, D. Ellis, and R. Austin will contact ASTM E12 (next meeting in June), SAE/LC, and ALI, respectively, to find if they can participate and distribute the survey to their members. However, this additional action should not delay the publication of the Directory too much. We plan to finish the final draft in several months.

4. Optical data correlation on luminance and color measurements.

M. Jergens and S. Dowell gave a presentation on the results of the Laboratory Standard Intercomparison Projects at Rockwell Collins and their financial effect analysis. The intercomparison results were circulated, through their courtesy, to the attendees only for discussion and not for further distribution. Intercomparison was made among 7 labs of separate locations, on the primary standard integrating sphere sources, for luminance, chromaticity, and color temperature. Other attendees' experiences on integrating sphere sources were also shared. The intercomparison data indicated inconsistency of results between chromaticity and color temperature. It was suggested that an intercomparison of the calculation of (correlated) color temperature be conducted within CR3, and all agreed. M. Jergens accepted to organize this intercomparison. He will develop draft plans for this intercomparison and circulate by email for discussion.

5. Next meeting

S. Dowell invited next CR3 meeting at Rockwell Collins, Melbourne, Florida, in winter, and all agreed. The date will be, tentatively, late January for possible conjunction with CORM BD meeting (usually held in Florida around this time).
